Retail Cloud to Envelop SMB?
Direct from the sign-of-the-times department comes news that Inventrak (Concord, CA), providers of retail management solutions to the SMB market, has changed its business name to Retail Cloud to better reflect its go-to-market strategy. The company, which has roots in the payment processing industry and sells mainly through partners, developed its cloud-based solution for retail in 2007, and has supported POS for high-profile events such as the U.S. Open, Super Bowl, and NCAA Final Four. During an interview with RRN.Com, Kevin Colaco, Founder and CEO, emphasized the growing acceptance of hosted solutions on the part of the SMB.
According to Colaco, many if not most SMB customers already depend on cloud-based applications for e-mail, scheduling, and marketing. Thus, it represents the natural progression for them to open their web browser to view sales and customer data and to perform supply chain functions. Redundancy and PCI DSS compliance on the part of Retail Cloud address reliability and security concerns, he suggested, while low cost of entry and scalability appeal to this eternally budget-conscious segment.
“We don’t believe retailers are buying POS hardware because they need a new way to ring up sales or to process their payments,” Colaco told RRN.Com. “We work on the theory that retailers are buying hardware because they’re looking at apps, to drive what we call ‘MSIB,’ which stands for ‘More Stuff in the Bag.’ How do they sell more stuff to their customers, in other words.” To that end, Retail Cloud brings its subscription-based package of POS, inventory, CRM, and time and attendance--helping merchants move from their core tasks to broader, “contextual” tools that help them grow their business.
